Kathleen Hawkins, President

My name is Kathleen Hawkins and I am a person in long-term recovery. My passion for this project comes from my personal and professional life. I have a Master's in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor's in Social Work from Norfolk State University. I have worked in a variety of settings with families with children. I have worked within the child welfare system, the education system, and in multiple clinical settings.

Many of the people that I love have lived in sober living homes after treatment to support their recovery. While working at an adolescent substance abuse treatment facility, I observed that this was not an option for teens leaving treatment, but one that was desperately needed.

As a social worker, I learned that if the service that people need doesn't exist, you build it.

Ella Peels, Vice President and Executive Director

My name is Ella Peels. My drive for this project comes from my confidence in the fact that I would not be in long-term recovery today without sober living and a twelve-step program. It was critical in the maintenance of my own recovery after leaving treatment. I want the resources that I had in early sobriety to be accessible to anybody and at any age.

My passion lies in helping children become strong adults. My work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (i.e., CASA) helps me to understand the unique challenges of nurturing adolescents with special needs. This work has also deepened my empathy for individuals who have had a rough start to life.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree from St. John's College, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology.

I am dedicated to using my experience with this disease and my education to uplift those currently unsupported by our recovery system.

Michele Eberle, Board Member

My name is Michele Eberle. I had the opportunity to learn about Youth Recovery Housing Solutions when the founders put out a call board members. The founders and existing board members are incredibly passionate about creating recovery housing with wrap around services for teens in Maryland. They know firsthand the significant need for this type of program. They have the passion, commitment, lived experience, and drive for this effort.  What I bring to the board is 30+ years of leadership experience running private, public, and non-profit organizations.  I have a vast history working with boards, legislators, government agencies, fundraising, and grant writing. I currently serve as the executive director for the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange and am thrilled that I can share my knowledge and connections to support Youth Recovery Housing Solutions.

Allyson Wiseman, Treasurer

My name is Allyson Wiseman, and I am a woman in long-term recovery. I am the founder and manager of a Sober Living Home in Anne Arundel County.

Sober Living is what really helped me achieve long-term sobriety. I began my journey with addiction at the age of thirteen. It took me until I was thirty years old to find my way into recovery. I wish I could have had somewhere safe and supportive to go as a teenager.

I am confident that I wouldn’t be here today  without Sober Living, and I am an adult, so how can I expect a teenager to with far fewer resources?

Greer Thornton, Secretary

My name is Greer Thornton. I am a person in long-term recovery. I have struggled with alcoholism since I was a pre-teen.
I have found a secure safe-haven in Sober Living. I've discovered genuine care, connections, and devotion. Through it all, it helped me realize how much I want to help the next person struggling with this disease. I want teenagers to find what I have found, and I am very blessed to be apart of this process in guiding them.
