Our First Housing Initiative
Our organization has the opportunity to implement an adapted version of our program with another population in need of a specialized supportive recovery environment: women.
Implementing our program with a more mature population will help YRHS with our long-term goal of opening the first successful sober living home for adolescents, which we hope to do in 2026.
What We Offer
Weekly individual goal setting sessions
We believe that long-term recovery starts with a firm understanding of each resident’s individual journey. We provide personalized support to each resident through regular meetings with a staff member that has years of professional experience with strengths-based goal setting. In these meetings, we ensure that residents receive the support that they need to set achievable goals, identify the steps to take, and course-correct when things don’t go as planned.
Job and Education readiness
We provide residents assistance with accessing the tools and support that they need in order to fulfill their career and educational goals. We support residents that want to further their education or vocational skills. We assist residents with applications, resume building, finding recovery-safe employment, preparation for interviews, and any additional support they may need to build the life they want to live.
a twelve-step process
As women who have attained long-term recovery through a twelve-step fellowship, we have made a twelve-step approach the foundation of our program. Residents are required to attend twelve-step meetings weekly as well as actively work with a sponsor. We provide optional transportation to meetings through our vast volunteer network.
community dinner program
We believe that recovery is a holistic process, and nourishing the body is a vital component. Five days a week, residents, staff, and often members of the recovery community gather to plan, prepare, serve, and share a family style meal.
During this time, discussions are held on topics that are chosen by residents on a varying basis week to week. Our community dinner program also allows for our residents to gain additional life skills around feeding themselves and others.
family support
We want to support residents in building and maintaining healthy relationships. Quarterly, loved ones are invited to share meal entirely planned, prepared and served by residents. Family members are also invited to attend a monthly virtual support session.
recovery hour
Once a month a mental health, recovery, or wellness professional holds a workshop with our residents that centers around an element of recovery.
House Party
We believe that it is important to learn how to have fun sober. Twice a month, residents stay in for a night of games, pizza, movies, skincare, and maybe even the occasional dance party.
onsite staff
We have paid staff that live onsite, and that are available to residents at any hour.
Community Garden Program
Residents will be responsible for our community garden. The yield will be distributed to sober living houses in the area by residents as part of their service work.
Service Work
We believe that being of service to others is essential to one’s personal recovery. We will provide opportunities and require each resident to fulfill a certain amount of service hours.
Financial Responsibility
Our program costs $850/month, or $215/week, which includes 16 homemade dinners per month.
Location
We are located in Anne Arundel County in Glen Burnie, Maryland, walking distance from a major bus line, and also from an Anne Arundel County Community College Campus
Admissions Process
We are currently accepting candidates for June 1st of this year. To ensure that each resident is a good fit for our home, an interview will be conducted virtually with our Executive Director. If a candidate is found to be a good fit, we will require a deposit and set an intake date. Transportation from a treatment center to our home may be available depending on location.
